This project at Seasons Golf Estate in Hartbeespoort was exactly that kind of home, and it called for a lighter, quieter hand.

The Setting: Light, Stone and Fairway Green

Seasons Golf, Leisure & Wildlife Estate sits on the Hartbeespoort side of the Magalies, where homes look out onto manicured greens, indigenous bushveld and big open sky. This residence leans into all of it — floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, natural stone feature walls and warm timber that ties the interior back to the landscape outside.

With so much natural texture already in the room, the brief wasn’t about drama. It was about softness: window treatments that would filter the light beautifully, keep the connection to the garden, and sit quietly alongside the stone and wood rather than competing with them.

Why We Chose Textured Sheers

For this home we specified warm, natural textured sheers hung on our wave formation. A textured sheer is the perfect answer for a room like this — it softens harsh sunlight into a gentle glow, adds privacy without ever blocking the view, and brings its own subtle warmth to the space through the weave itself.

The texture matters. A flat, plain voile can read as cold and utilitarian; this fabric has a natural, linen-like character that catches the light and echoes the earthy tones of the stone and timber. Hung floor to ceiling, it draws the eye up and makes the glazed elevations feel even taller.

On the wave formation, those sheers form soft, continuous S-curves that hang in identical columns from top to bottom — a neat, clean finish that stays crisp and architectural whether the curtains are drawn or stacked back off the glass.

Silk House Fabrics: Drape You Can Feel

We selected the fabrics from Silk House Fabrics, chosen for their weight and drape. A sheer only forms a proper wave if it has enough body to hold the curve and enough fluidity to fall gracefully — get it wrong and the fabric either collapses or stands stiff. These hang exactly as a wave sheer should: relaxed, even and full.

Perspex Draw Rods: The Detail That Keeps Fabric Flawless

Sheer fabrics are unforgiving of handling. Every time a curtain is opened by hand, oils and marks transfer from fingertips to fabric — and on a pale, textured sheer, those marks show. Over time the leading edge of the curtain becomes grubby and grey, no matter how carefully you build it.

So on this project every curtain runs on a perspex draw rod. The client opens and closes the curtains using the clear rod rather than grabbing the fabric itself. It’s a small, almost invisible detail, but it makes an enormous difference:

• The fabric is never touched, so the sheer stays clean and the leading edge stays crisp for years.
• Opening and closing is effortless, with an even pull that keeps the wave spacing consistent every time.
• The rod all but disappears against the glass, so nothing distracts from the fabric or the view.

It’s the kind of considered detail that separates a curtain that looks good on day one from one that still looks good years later.
